I was recently chatting with a few girlfriends who are not "plus size" women. One of them in particular has recently gained weight and is naturally uncomfortable with this change. Of course I understood everything about her desire to want to lose the weight. However, the way she described how she felt about herself and how unattractive she felt did not sit well with me. So, being a woman who has always lived with a little or a lot extra, I had to share a ritual that I thought she could use. I'm sure at some point in my life I didn't feel so great about me, and from time to time my mojo gets a little weak. And of course I want to lose weight for all the health reasons. However my response to her is my response to myself daily. I said "regardless of whether I am 10, 20 or 200 pounds over weight everyday I have to get up, look myself in the mirror and tell myself that I'm a bad bitch. If I don't think I'm beautiful, no one else will. And when that level of confidence exudes throughout your mental, it exudes throughout your life." Honestly, it's those words and that abundance of self love that keeps me going. I'm sure when I first started this ritual, I didn't fully believe the words. But now I'm feeling and looking great. So when I came across this beautiful response to self confidence, shared by Gabby Sidebe, in a XO Necole interview, it resonated with me. Sidebe said, "I don't think that my brand of self confidence and self assurednes can come from an outside source." I love it...hope you enjoy it too!
